Mike, You’re making me jealous!! For years I would always go to the Grand Prix in Monaco and stay in Nice. I can smell the air and see the sites. If you have a car available, drive into the hills overlooking Monte Carlo and check out the real estate. Next year, book your trip about 3 weeks earlier and go to the race. Actually, the week before the race is the time to be there. You did say your wife was with you?????

Something I'll bet you guys didn't know that you can do with houses is exchange them. My wife and I are here in an appartment in Nice. We walked to the beach tonight at 5:00 for a swim. The French people, who usually live here, are in our house in San Diego. Total cost of lodging for 3+ weeks = $0. Cost of food when you can cook in and don't have to eat at restaurants every meal is much less, too, and you get to experience these wonderful European markets.
*Hi MikeHope your having a good time, I know we are and we're almost done with the modifications to your house. Boy, are your neighbours strange thought.Gabe
*...yeh, and I really didn't get that whole "open up the back end of the house for the view" thing either, did you Gabe? Just looks like the front of a hanger to me. But, there you go, there's no accounting for taste. - jb
*Check out Cannes amd St. Tropez -- smaller and less well-traveled. I'm not sure how far it is, but the Arles area is beautiful (Van Gogh's hangout for a while) and BE SURE to try the raclette, a potato/cheese/ham peasant dish that is unmatched. (Swiss origin?) Hey, you could even TGV to Paris.Have a great time! (And why the heck do you have time for the Internet!?!)
*Chere Andrew,C'est trais bon que tu a fait un tour de France, mais pense tu que tu poura reste avec le sujet en main?Gabe
*Geez, I was there 15 years ago, and what was the subject anyway??? I figgered mike just wanted everyone to know he was somewhere more interesting than us -- and with internet access!Gabe, I bet you have one of those Cajun Quebecois French accents, eh? And isn't it "pourras"? Vous to you, buddy!
*No, there's no such thing as a Cajun Quebecois French accent. However, much to the dismay of the Quebec language police, us real French Canadians don't try to imitate the European French. And more importantly, you may be a good lawyer, a fair carpenter but you're a pathetic straight man.The idea was to remind our globe trotting friend what we are doing to his house while he's gone.GabeWait until he lands at LAX and that tip I sent the authorities will ensure a body cavity search.
*Gabe, I think you've let the cat out of the bag. No need to be mean to Mike.... just 'cause he went from one lovely place to another. gee, wonder what we could trade this place for -- a few weeks in Kosovo? As for the French Canadian French ... i just found it ... remarkable. As for straight, well, just ask my wife. 2nd child is due in December, God willing.

*GabeMy fathers family are from the Gaspe, my old man was born and raised in Montreal, went to a Jesuit boarding school to get a "classical" education. . . Never 'lost his French' after moving to Toronto when he was a teenager. When he and my mother visited France, late in his life, the Parisians all thought he was from Normandy or Brittany (I don't recall which). Take Canadian French, (not patois), soften it with the years 'away', and it sounds pretty European to the Europeans. . . and, perhaps, still much like the "dialect" of the day when it first came to these shores.-pm
*Well, I just back from four days camping in San Diego--Mike, sounds like you missed the "June Gloom" and the scads of rain everyone was talking about.Oh yeah, while you're working on that tan, be sure to leave your shirt off. It'd be too funny to find out you went all the way to the Riveria just for a farmer's tan.
*HEY MIKE! - All kidding aside (not for long), I told my wife about your "house exchange" and she asked how you arranged it. Are you a member of some club? Or maybe you knew these folks? Is there a web site where folks advertise that they're game for this "house swapping"? Thanks - jb
*Rich, I just spent 5 days on the Atlantic coast of Spain. So I got a touch of June Gloom. Back to the sun now with my shirt off.
*Jim, this is our 5th exchange in Europe. Membership is about $75 per year. You get a book with everybody in it. Your listing goes in the book and on the web site. You get access to the member area of the web site. We swear by it.http://www.homelink.org/
