i need to make a loft floor as thin as i can… the building is laid out on a 16′ grid 9″ sq heart pine posts… so my span is 16′ best i can come up with so far is 7″ 14ga metal joist on 16″ centers topped with 2 layers of 3/4″ t&g plywood… underside to remain exposed… ideas? help?

2 layers of 1/4" ply on each side of 3" deep honeycomb.
*i have less than 18' floor to ceilng... some of it will remain an 18' ceiling .... i want to a: keep it simpleb: keep it cost effective (read cheap)c: keep max headroom above and belowd: whatever is the loft floor will also be the ceiling below(goes back to cheap)thanks againpony
