The house in the country that we puchased includes a ~16 X 20 ft log cabin, approximately 500ft and 300 trees from the house, so we can’t see it from our house. It is a magnet for local kids wanting to break in and mess it up. My husband doesn’t want to rent it out–I want to sell it. Is there any market for prefabbed log cabins – looks manufactured rather than rustic. Logs are about 4 x 6″ and have some type of dark preservative, looks like creosote, but doesn’t smell like it.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is a market for log cabins but it may not bring near the price you expect. It would have to sell way below wholesale price of a new kit due to the labor it would take to dismantle and move.
If you are set on getting rid of it, check and see if a non profit org. would be interested such as a church camp, or private school. You may be able to take a nice deduction on the old 1040 that would net you more money. Check with a CPA for this posibility.
*A house mover could probably move it intact especially if its a crawlspace foundation but you'd have to have a pretty wide path thru the trees . Chuck
*Before you dispose of this cabin consider the possibilities if you moved it to another site on your property. The first thing that comes to mind is a shop or outbuilding for your tools, mowers, tractor, etc. A little plumbing and electrical work and you have a guest house! Throw in breakfast and make $50-60 a night. We just built a rustic 16 x 20 building for a client to use as a crafts sales room. A 16 x 20 structure is easy to move if you have access. If you don't, taking it down and moving it in pieces is not an insurmountable task. No matter how much you get for it when you sell it you will never be able to duplicate the space elsewhere on your property for the same amount.
