i have completed plans for an unusual
house to be built in arlington VA.
the constuction will be similar to that
found in strip mall units, that is, with
exposed steel trusses supporting
concrete floors with embedded hydronic
heating.
the footprint is 2000 sq ft, 2 floors plus unfinished basement.
for more info please contact me and i can fax the plans and if you are interested, send the blueprints.
i would appreciate any help anyone can
give me on how to find a builder because as yet i have been singularly unsuccessful
thankyou, irene gray

Hey Irene, I live in Arlington myself. I'm a licensed carpenter, not a builder, but would like to here more about your plans just for interest. I encourage you to post particulars here as there are many regulars who have experience and good advice in some of the areas you mention (e.g., hydronic heat See the archives too.
I'm "aware" of several builders in the area, but don't know too much as I usually hire myself (I get a discount). You'll want someone with experience in the atypical materials your design requires. (No offense, but I hope it won't be in my neighborhood of capes and colonials!) Firsthand recommendations are great. As elsewhere, the economy is keeping the contractors here, esp. the good ones, very very busy.
*I am a builder on the west coast (Oregon) but I moved out here 26 years ago. My brother is still building in Virgina, well I guess all over the east coast, he builds hotels with his inlaws and has much experience in residental as well.(The majority of my family is in the D.C.area) It may be the commercial part in materials and style is what you are looking for. If interested e-mail me, I'll getr you his phone, oddly enough he is not an e-mailer(unless family finally convinced him over the holidays) I might even come east for a few weeks to help if I can break free from my crews.
