Im looking for help to come up with a business name. I do custom work.. Very little production stuff. Mostly hi end renovations, finish carpentry, painting. SO far Ive come up with
Dunwell Building Services
Chatteau Building Services (My fathers company name was Chatteau Painting & Decorating Ltd.)
T. Rowell Custom Building & Renovations
Id like some suggestions if anyones got any.
Someone suggested Tripp & Fall Construction. I think not
Ive talked to some of my customers & they suggest just using my name. People with remember it. If I use Dunwell then they’ll call me Mr. Dunwell.
I have always had trouble with people pronouncing my name. It doesnt seem that hard. Rowell. Pronounced like towel with an R. I just dont know.
What do you guys think?

Ted
Recommend last one. Named my company after late wife. Her name was Jerilynn (without the dash). Every one calls me Jeri or Mr. Lynn.
Vince
Also thinking about changing company name.
*If you intend to grow a business to sell it someday, pick a snazzy name.Otherwise, if its you, call it after you.........or call it after your special skill.....Luck
*I named mine after my kids initails J.A.R.
*Mark is on to something. There are essentially two ways to make money from your company; take income as you go and build assets that can be sold when you are ready. Some people live on financing, like an auto dealership, and take their money as they go. Others build a lot of assets, including a customer base and then sell that for retirement or just to move on. Some blend the two.So, if you want to make selling possible pick a good name that isn't too personalized, record it with the State and advertise to beat the band.
*If you specialized in masonry it could be 'TRowell Mud Consruction' "we realy trowel it on!"LOL
*Ted,If your fathers old business name has value to the people in your area, it could be a plus. I like Rowell Building Services. My last name is Williams. There are about a billion Williams's in Dallas. Not much there for name recognition. But "Rowell" now there is a name that stands out. If you do a good job, nobody will have trouble remembering your name.Ed.
*Good suggestions here. My only thought is the "fact" that the IS audits more companies that are named after a person. The reason explained to me was that they figured a small guy would hide a lot of income. The other impression I have is when you sell your business years down the road you will not find a buyer that wants it and will not be able to get $ for the name and associated goodwill (reputation).Good luck
*I'd go with the third one. If you use your name you don't have to apply to the state for a fictious name. Plus it's a good way of advertising yourself.
*well I've decided to go with Ted Rowell Custom Building Services. Hey.. My mom liked the name hope the customers do too!Ted
*Good Luck!
*When you put your name on your company, it sends a loud message to your potential clients. It says that YOUR name is on the company, and that anything short of a superb job reflects on YOU.By using your name, you will always think about the fact that your name is on this company, so you WILL do a great job, and your reputation will be built on a strong base. It keeps you constantly protecting your personal image as well as your business image by doing great work, being fair and honest, and having a good customer rapport. Potential clients actually think about this stuff (when they actually think).Good luck.James DuHamel
*Ted,Nice choice. Rowell is a name people will remember. But the guys at the lumber yard will cuss you everytime they write up a ticket under your company name.My company name? The Great American Carpentry Company. The guys at the lumber yard got fed up and started writing GACC on the tickets. I guess you'll be TRCBS.I wish I could have called it "Ed's Construction".But there are about 30 Ed Williams' in Dallas alone, and probably a thousand Ed's. Good luck in your business. Regards,Ed.
