Looking for advice on a portable planer
I am getting back into the biz and setting up a shop, though much of my work will be onsite so I like portable tools. I retired my ancient Makita & bought the new Bosch table saw on wheels (LOVE IT!;-) and still have my old Hitachi compound miter (and chop saw) w/a stand on wheels. I just picked up a job that will require a planer and I wonder if anyone has positive or negative feedback on the Grizzly G0505 12 1/2″? Any other recommendations? I will probably only be using it about 100 hours/year. It sure looks like good value for the $$.
Even at 56 I am sooo glad to give up the desk and get my old toolbelt back on (although one notch bigger!;-)! I LOVE building things and all of the attendant pastimes concerning tools and lumber yards and yakking with others in the trades.
Thanks, Eric

hjalmar,
I can't speak about the portable planer, but I've bought 9 differant pieces of Grizzly stuff and none of it has needed any service in the last nearly 6 years..
It's worked great right out of the box.. My experiance with grizzly has been extremely positive.. Highly recommend them to others.
Thanks, Frenchy!Hjalmar
Dont know anything about the Grizzly, but have used the Dewalt and been happy with it. But, it is heavy. I still use my old Ryobi AP10 most of the time, mostly becuase it is so much lighter than the Dewalt.
Do you still have your old makita table saw? If so, Jeff Buck ( regular poster here) might be interested in it. I know he was looking for one a while back. I will try and send him a message.
m2akita,I do still have the old Makita portable table saw and it still works fine.I regret having sold that old Ryobi 10-inch planer 10 yrs ago. I don't blame you for still using yours. I think I'll take a chance now on the Grizzly. Thanks for reply,Hjalmar
