looking for control to activate gate arm
I am trying to figure out a cost effective way to trigger a gate arm to raise or lower. The unit has a PLC. I was thinking maybe I could use a board from a garage door opener to communicate with the board on the PLC signaling it to raise the arm or lower the arm, just using the garage door opener’s keychain remote to trigger it.
Any thoughts?

Have you looked at what is available already. There are lots of companies making gate controllers that are RF actuated from key fobs or transponders, road loop actuated, bar code actuated etc.
Google gate controller for a few thousand hits.
They all seem overpriced to me
Check out King Architectural Metals.

they have tons of stuff and I have always had helpful customer service reps answer the phone when I call.
Hey Nick,
I wanted to thank you for your recommendation about King Metals. I checked them out and I ended up ordering a Linear AP-5 and some keychain remotes. The system controls our equipment flawlessly at a great price!
Thanks again, I appreciate the help.

Steve
