Well I just bought my first house in Ocala, Fl. It is a tiny house about 900 sq ft with a 3 sided carport to one side. It has a truss roof and sits on concrete block with about a 3 foot crawl space under it. It is a framed house and is in dire need of work. My first question most likely in a series of many to this site is this. It has no heating source and an outdated large airconditioner as its primary source of cooling. I am thinking of putting in a heat pump for the heating and cooling. I was anticipating a 2 ton unit however if I add on to the house which will likely occur seeing as how my wife is pregnant with our second child should this affect my decision as to what size unit I put in? Also what is a good brand to install and where can I find some good information on installing one everything but charging the system of course? Budget is of course at a minimum but with out any heat in this house I dont want to suffer or my family to either. Any advice will be greatly appreciated thank you. Centaur76

I am in NW fla with a 1200 st ft block house. my house is rated for a 2 1/2 ton unit. I have a 3 ton on it heat pump. Put as much insulation in the attic as possible and stay away from dark color roofs. I have tin on mine. I have R65 in attic. Its works great no problem, I have a Bryant heat pump but any of the name brands are good. Rheem is a good one too. Find a A/C company not indivdual that been in business local for as least 20-30 years. You might pay alittle more but the service be worth it. I do not deal with anybody without twenty employees, I know they will be around a while.
