Hi to all
I’m looking for a good way or system to hang pictures on a old plaster wall .
I was thinking about finding the studs and screwing 1×2 along the length of the wall .
Any better Ideas???
Thanks Al

Hey, Al - you've probably found that when you try to drive a nail into this stuff, it either bends the nail or knocks out a chunk as big as the end of your thumb !
What I've taken to doing is to drill a very small, angled hole and slip in a 6d or 8d finish nail. The dense plaster will hold quite a bit of weight. Of course you can use the commercial hook with the nail slipped through the hole, but the nail itself will really serve the purpose.

GregGibson,
Thanks That a good idea did not think about that
Greetings albee,
as a first time poster Welcome to Breaktime.
If there is presently no trim in the old plaster ceiling/wall junction you could install the trim boards designed for hanging the pics from and keep true to the commonality of old plastered homes.
Sometimes there would be designed wooden blocks at desired viewing heights secured to studs before the plaster went on taht screw hooks would be placed in.
But if you just want to hang a few light frames you could predrill a small hole to make sure you don't have your 1 in 5 chance of missing a piece of lath then use a screw to hang.
Heavier frames of course you'd want a stud.
We can imagine something that only exists in our heads, in a form that has no measureable, tangible reality, and make it actually occur in the real world. Where there was nothing, now there is something.

I got one right!
A band of picture rail around the room can do a lot for the look of tall walls, aside from the convenience for picture-hanging. Even if it can be a dust-catcher.
you could put a picture molding around the room and work from there..
haw ya fixed for tools..
