I’m looking around for plans to make mantles of different shapes, designs and styles. The plans I’d like to get are ones that are old fashioned (if possible to find) or modern and can be made with a wide assortment of power tools. I don’t want those styles with carved parts in them. Does anyone know where I can go on the internet to find plans?
Thanks kindly

I don't have a magic volume for you - I have several books that contain a few examples each - my preferences lean toward early american/primative - here's a link to an Amazon search that might get you something -

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

Yup
Don't get to use it as much as I would like. But Paul, if you have something you're trying to make happen, holler. I've done little ones, big ones, simple boxes, colonial, A&C, Shaker, flat to the wall, and boxed out with overmantle. Not a guru, but I'll help if I can.
I'd also say if you're looking for decent "how to" and what goes into a mantle, Katzs Finish Carpentry book has a chapter on them. Not a bad read. And of course his pics are all of dandys."If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain
Thanks for the help RW. I wish you would show off your mantle creations on here with a few pics.
Thanks
One of the things I'm bad at is remembering to bring the stinkin digital camera. You'd think - some of the houses I'm on - one I was there trimming the thing for almost three months. Did I remember the camera . . . like ever? No, I get up, I think - oh yeah, today here's my list of things to do, and don't forget to get this tool into the truck today, and you gotta coordinate this change with the yard or the schedule is going to go to heck . . . camera ain't even on the radar screen."If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain
