I am an owner/builder that used polybutylene for my water supply. Now with the lawsuits, I don’t know where to get the copper rings or buy a crimping tool. Anyone know of a place to get them? Or maybe you have some on hand that you would like to sell? Fitting would be nice, too.

How about a plumbing supply house?
*Home depot sells the rings and the fitting, the the tool you are looking for is at a plumming supply house and don't spend more that 75 dollars for it. and they have diffent types in stock. the best are the hand held one if you have good hands. If not get the large one that uses two hands to close. They also sell one that has the two sizes in one tool 3/4, 1/2 inch.

As previously noted, Home Depot and Lowes carry the crimping tools that you need. They work just fine but require a lot of room to open the tool, set it in place around the ring, and close the tool to make the crimp. There are other tools available from plumbing supply houses that require much less space to operate because the jaws can dislocate to open. This will all be clear if you are trying to crimp a fitting inside a wall or inside a crowded sink base. The crimping tools will work on both the older style poly tubing (grey color) and the current style PEX (milky white color). The older pipe uses the copper colored crimp rings and the newer pipe uses the black rings. They are not interchangeable but they do make transition couplings that will allow you to get from the grey pipe to the white pipe if need be. Good luck.

Hi Howard!!
Call Wirsbo. When the shit hit the fan with the polybute and Uponor was trying to pick up the market share, they was offerin' a bounty on these tools to get guys to switch to the ProPex expander tool.
Ummmm. I wonder whatever happened with all those tools they took in on trade? Might want to check the Minneapolis Yellow Pages under "Pawn Shops".[g]
*Check your system Howard. If it has brass fittings leave it alone.I have some rental mobile homes etc which I have repiped with polybutelene since it first came out. The only failures I have ever had have been with the grey plastic fittings they sold. With brass fittings properly done I have never had a failure. Some of these trailers have frozen solid from time to time when vacant, yet when they thawed out I had no leaks. With any other piping such as copper or PVC or CPVC I always have busted pipes thats why I switched to polybutelene years ago.Do yourself a favor. If it Ain't broke dont fix it.
