Hoping some of you contractors out there might have an angle for me to pursue – I’m looking to put a small window on a wall to an outside porch – the problem is my rough opening is 19″ at most. So I’m looking at a window with glass size around 12″ where the ‘standard’ small size appears to be 16″. All the big names only go down to 16″ – anyone have an idea where I might be able to pick up a smaller window in IL – or could easily get it to Chicago. Thanks much!

have you inquired into the big name window manufacturers making you one to fit....
I believe this can happen...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Sounds like a fixed window to me, so just frame it out, trim it out, put in stops and go to your local glaser and have him make up a dbl. pane pc. of glass.

So - I would definitely go fixed - except I need to be able to open the window. Its sort of complicated - but its essentially a guest bedroom that doesn't have any windows and there is no central air. (Theres a large french door leading out to the porch but that doesn't help with the next bit.) We were hoping to put a small portable air conditioner in there so its bearable in the summer. I can fit the exhaust from a portable in a ~12" glass double or single hung window and we could then close it up during the winter. I'd prefer to not just make a hole in the wall - which is where the window idea is coming from.Regards
You have such a speciall requirement I think that I would use a special method rather than trying to find some "standard" that would fit.Make up a hole in the wall to fit the AC. Frame and trime it like a fixed windowd. Then get the glass and make a fixed frame. When needed put in the AC.The rest of the time remove it and scew in the fixed sash section..
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I ordered two windows of the same approximate size. I found a great window supply guy here in Los Angeles and he ordered them from a local manufacturer. If you want, e mail me and I can give you his contact info... maybe have the windows shipped.
I tried emailing you - Yersmay, but it bounced back. You should be able to send to me through the forums though. It would be great if you could give me your window guy's contact info. I've almost resided to the fact that I'll have to go a split fixed/hole option. It would be great to get a little more light in that bedroom but still have the option of through in the portable if it gets unbearable. Thanks for all the suggestions - awnings would almost work - but would require enough modifications on the portable part that it negates the window advantages.Regards
Marvin carries awning windows with a 12 or 13" RO height.
I was searching for some last year and ended up using some fixed windows on a cupola.
A week after I got the fixed windows my supplier found the Marvin windows. The awnings were quoted around $250ea for 11x20. The fixed ran about 1/2 that price.
They weren't available in the marvin book, but a rep happened to come by and my supplier questioned him about them-- hence the delay-- So you may have to poke a few sticks to get a good answer.
EDIT... Just read the post again..... I see you need a single hung...disregard above
