looking for the handrail tool on TOH

While watching “Ask THis Old HOuse” this past weekend, Tommy was using a tool I’ve never seen anywhere to connect magnetic male and female connectors implanted in the respective sections of handrail. He put this attachment on the drill, and held it over the joint, pulled the trigger, and like magic, the connectors “spun” together. I’ve never read about this in any of the trades, and I’ve not heard anyone talk about this here on BT.
When asked about it on TV, he said he found it “at a trade show” and it could be found at “any specialty woodworker’s store”. Well they must not have paid him for the plug because he didn’t give any information. Someone posted a question on the TOH website and no one has responded. I’ve got to believe that someone in this forum knows what this magic wand is and where it can be found!! Help us out, please!

I have seen it anounced in one of the mags, but don't remember where.
Look to see if they have a Show by Show index for Ask TOH. Then look for suppliers. I know that they have it for the regular shows.
I also look at the credits at the end of the show. They often show the name of suppliers.
I think that I have also seen it used on TOH or on Hometime.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I want to say "Granville" or similar sounding name..but the scoop is propietary to thier handrails, not just any old Profile or what have you.
I DO know they advertise in FHB mag. I've seen it there.

They have a dealer locator link near the bottom. Don't know if you can buy them online.
that's it!! thanks. I've never seen it advertised, while a couple of guys have seen it in one of the mags. Seems too good to be true, but it's impressive."The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program" -Ronald Reagan
I found it online for $900- 1,000.

I saw it at JLC Live last year. Very impressive. Very expensive.
like I said, I saw it on line for around a grand.....like you said, if all you do is put in stairs, it's probably worth considering....."The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program" -Ronald Reagan
Yeah, while I was watching the demonstration I was mentally figuring for as little as I do stairs, but as good as I'd like to be at them, what would the tool be worth...I think I came up with around $300 or $400. Not worth the premium for me, but I only do stairs once or twice a year. For a daily stairmaster, heck yeah.
I bought the Festool Domino when I had a large stair job last year. Handy for all types of other jobs and made it a lot easier to join the rails nicely.JT
That's a heck of an idea. Similar price range but more versatile tool.
The largest domino is pretty darn huge and after letting it setup with glue - I drilled and screwed into each side underneath, effectively locking the joint with the screws going through the domino. Plugged the screw holes and I was in business.JT
Ditto what Mike said. The tool is expensive and as I recall the magnetic threaded hardware is expensive too. Probably worth it if all you do is build stairs.
For those of you who remember him, wonder what ol' Larry would have thought of this? Probably would have said that his gun clips were superior. LOL.
I thought we were all banned from saying the L word !!!! Surprised Prospero didnt edit you out :)

I was gonna say the same thing...who knows what evil he's unleashed...oh the horror....
The tool you have seen is made by Lamello the biscuit Joiner people it does work very well enabling you to undo the invisible connectors if needed. It is also expensive.I cant remember its exact name but any Lamello dealer would be able to help.I checked the lamello model is called INVIS.

I saw a demo of the Lamello Invis at last years Cloverdale Woodworking Show, a very small local show. Wow, was I ever impressed of the system, its great. A bit pricey, but in the right situation well worth every dollar.Martin
All the way from down under...Now I'm impressed AND honored! It's called EasAlign. I've installed stairs, but not enough to put out those kind of dollars....."The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program" -Ronald Reagan
