Looking for a specific type of tile but don’t know what is called or where I can find it. It s approx. 4×8 to 6x 12 and used in commercial to industrial spaces like schools and so on.
Kind of old school. Thanks

Are you talking about ceramic tile?
For walls? or floors?
What is different about it.
Many tiles are available in rectangular sizes.
Subway tile is a generic name for a rectangular tiles that are installed in a running bond pattern unlike the more common stacked bond pattern used with square tile.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
You probably mean "Subway" tile - maybe this?

Forrest - likin' subway tile
Sorry , wall tile . But much larger than subway tile .
Okay, maybe SUBWAY tile?
Forrest - still trying to help
I appreciate your enthusiasm but I don't think that is the right name for the particular tile I am looking for. Everyone knows what subway tile is.
ROFL!
Modmad, you have to be more specific. I just finished installing 12" x 24" porcelain tile on a floor. Last summer I installed a red clay tile patio, the tiles being 6" x 12" x 3/4" thick, in a basketweave pattern. Saying they're bigger than subway tiles tells us nothing. What material are they made of?

Pretty sure they are ceramic. My memory of this tile is on the walls of the school cafeteria 20 some years ago. My customer wants an industrial look. Just looking for the correct name of the tile, if there is one. Has a glazed face , I seem to remember some varities of this tile speckled. Approx. 4x8 - 6x 12 and not quarried. Can anyone remember back that far?
Terrazzo, perhaps?"there's enough for everyone"
You should be able to find a tile similar, but my guess is the stuff you are remembering is a structural glazed ceramic block. Kind of a concrete block made out of ceramic with the face glazed. Here's a link.

Thanks , you got it!
Quarry tile?
If you have a piece and the back is reasonably clean, take it to a real-deal tile supply house. The pattern and markings on the back of the tile are often a "code" that a good tile person can read like a book and identify the manufacturer.
I pulled this trick a couple of years ago and found replacements for some 30 year old tiles. The guy behind the counter took a quick look at the back and told me that they didn't carry it, but another store down the street should have it.............and they did!! - lol
