Hey all , heres a possible quandry in these uncertain times worldwide.
Recently bid on a job and was out by many thousands..(5 to be exact), now no way were we out in relation to time and materials…we had this double and treble checked by a quantity surveyor. The other bids that were not accepted were within a few hundred of us also. It’s no biggy we are booked out till next February at the moment but it got me thinking
Now here’s my question….assuming that work was tight…would you ever consider matching a lower bid just to maintain momentum yet take a loss overall ?…..personally I’d be happier at home looking out at the crows…lol
Looking forward to your input

Any time I ever lost a job on bid, it was because a higher power was making room in my scedule fopr a better job just around the corner that I hadn't seen coming yet.

being a slower learner than most .. it took me a couple years to figger out you could lose a lot of money taking a job below your estimate..... and , invariably... while you're slogging it out in the trenches on the loser job... you miss out on the opportunity for the good job...
better to have a different strategy that take a job at a reduced priceMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore

I`m in agreeance with all here....if you`re certain it was the numbers that lost you the job, might I recomend a followup survey? No guarentee you`ll receive a response, but several lost clients have responded to a few of mine. I often check back on jobs I "lost".....once I know the project was completed I drop a survey in the mail asking the homeowner a few simple questions evaluating their experience and whether or not the estimate I lost out to ended up being realistic. I`ve found out more than once that there were regrets.

What kind of momentum are you trying to keep up?
You in some kind of death spiral and you don't want to pull out?
Momentum is only good if it is in a positive direction.
