Scooter...you may be doing something repetitively that is warping your spine. My back hurt like that until I realized it was from the way I picked my saw up off the ground. I bent over and to the right to pick it up right-handed kind of sideways. When I started hooking it to the horse the pain went away. Also get rid of those tight jeans and wear loose fitting overalls so your can bend your knees. Pay the hookers enough and they won't care what you look like.

I realize that this may be an opening to all sorts of new posts ;-), but I was given a vibrator that has helped with my back aches. It's a handheld item taking 3 AA batteries sold under the Dr Scholl's brand name. Model DR7510, Schering Plough Healthcare Products, Inc. Manufactured by Helen of Troy LP, El Paso, TX. After 30 years of aches, it's the first real effective, short and quick, temporary relief of lower back muscle ache that I have found.
*There's a recent thread under the "Business" section about lower back pain, so I'll keep this posting brief. What works for me is yoga, Iyengar style. As someone once said via snail-mail to this very magazine, those yoga dudes have been perfecting their system for a thousand years. The had part is......it isn't a quick fix. I attended a weekly class for a couple of years to learn it, and I have to do it a couple of times a week to keep it going.Lee
*Ask your doc, and it's all muscle strength, stretching, and not straining the back. Certain exercises will strengthen the back, but stretching is also important. I watch my dog stretch every morning before his outdoor poop. He instinctly knows to do this. We don't. Lower back problems are usually associated with poor posture during the day and improper lifting. We are our own enemies, in other words. I avoid this by going back to my old days as a military cadet. I sit upright, I walk erect, one foot parallel to the other (no duck walking), and I stretch often during the day. The lower back is the most likely reason one can't play golf again, and I love golf. So I work at it. Try stretching every day just after waking - it'll make a difference, and it takes less time than brushing your teeth. If your waist happens to be bigger than your chest, then you've also set the stage for back problems.
*Back pain from an old injury or jolt to the body can finally flair up too. My first trip to the Chiro was for x-rays. He saw a few things that he took for football related injuries, except I never played h.s. football. He said the years of motorcross riding and bouncing off trees would appear the same. This was from when I was riding as a teenager, and the back pains didn't start till my late twenties/early thirties. Had something in the very lower back and in my neck area. These are the two areas that act up now. Either lower back or neck/shoulder.I went to a few Chiros that didn't do a thing, and have two in the same office now that can hit it in just ten minutes of manipulation. I'm used to a heavy crack now, and the lighter touch just aggravates it a few days later. Gotta find someone you're comfortable with and stick with them.I definately recommend someone that will xray first. Jeff
*Check out the book,i Pain Free,by Pete Egoscue. The simple exercises relieved my mid-back pain.David

Hello Scooter:
*Along with everything the other guys have said, my Dad had symptoms similar to yours and it turned out to be an appendix problem!

I don't know if I'm just getting old or what.
I am 50 and in great health. I am not overweight. But every day over the last few months, at about 4:00 pm, I get this tremendous low back pain. There are time that I can barely stand up.
After an hour of horizontal rest and a hot shower I am fine. The next day I am fine, until of course, about 4:00.
I know this isn't a medical buletin board, but, what do you guys do?
Those ab belts? Tylenol? Muscle Relaxers? Percodan? More Sex With Hookers?
Anybody else have this problem?
*Whats with all the body posts recently? Are you guys trying to catch up with us old guys? Maybe after a long winter layoff the body has some rust, eh?I'll repeat again the medicine that was hard to take but has worked for me and for a lot of others who are now getting to retirement time. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Go to a GOOD Physical Therapist to have a program of stretching, weight training and aerobic exercise laid out. Then follow it.The last, following the program, is the hard part. But this program keeps the muscles, tendons and ligaments and bones strong and functioning. Don't let anything interfere with daily exercise.Add an occasional Naproxen or Tylenol and you have done everything you can do.Now, if a pain is unusual, persistant or of sudden onset don't rely on the free advise you get here. Get to a doctor immediately. Better to spend a couple bucks on an office visit than to have permanent consequences. Now, I'm not a doctor, don't play one on tv and do not offer this as professional medical advise. I am just reciting the experience of myself and several others over a lifetime.
*Just read your other post. What's this "More Sex With Hookers" you put in both posts? Have you had some recent traumatic experience?
*An MD, Rene Cuilliet, has a series of books on various maladies of the muscoskeletal system. Additionally, she has an out of print book, The Reguvenation Stategy. I have found her approach to be helpful, informative, and practical. Hope this helps.Dennis
*I vote for more ab workouts and more sex with hookers, unless of course the two can go together!
*Might be that more sex with hookers is the cause of the low back pain ;o)
*More sex and a Chiropractor. P.T.'s don't do anything for me with the gentle stuff, I need the full crack. Chiro, stretch, and back/stomach exercises. Jeff
