I’m looking at buying carpet for three bedrooms.
About 16 yards per room.
I guess I could pay $10 a yard at Lowes or Home depot
But I hear stories about people buying a new house and taking out the carpet and replacing it before they ever move in.
Where can I buy carpet like that?
I’m guessing they just give the old carpet to the installer?
Where can I buy new carpet at a good price?
I ran a search on Craigs list
Nothing

Try a local carpet seller or installer.
Thanks I appreciate it!
i got ya coverd on this one. go over to sherwin williams at central and west. the have some carpet they priced to me the other day [week ago] for 20- 50 cents a foot. 1.80 -450 a yard. what a deal, but i'm trying to clean out some of my "good buys " in the barn, and money is getting really tight right now so i passed.i'll be sorry some day,but as the saying goes:

Thanks Larry!Drove by there this AM and they have some great prices on remnantsI need this for my house.Based upon feedback from realtors I'm going to carpet the bedrooms.I did the hallway last week and will try to match the carpets to the hallway.this guy has 75-100 rolls of remnants. A lot of the "builders" weight of carpeting.Mostly beige. Thanks again!
i'm curious, are your bedroom floors oaknow and they think you ought to carpet.
seems in the rentals people are going nuts over the whole thing being hardwood.if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
Don't ask
Larry I've got carpet squares in the bedrooms right now.People don't like it so I'm making some changes.Carpet square are glued to the floorOuch
Larry, Did you know they give landlords a 10% discount on carpet at Farhas?.."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
i used to buy all my carpet at jabaras, then they got big time and i haven't bought any for years from them.
now i usally buy from farha, and to tell you the truth i never heard the 10% off deal. they do usally knock off some, supposelly because i'm buying over 50 yards. next time i'm in there i'l l ask em.
can you believe how quite its gotten here at bt? i think they have kicked 75% of the regular guys off,i'm just waiting for the shoe to drop on me. guess i better not say any dirty words???? if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
Larry, I've been here 2-3 years now I think? and this is the best website I've found on the internetI hung out at "this old house" and one other place and this is by far the bast site with great people who are knowledgeable. But I miss the people who are gone. It's like we've all been drinking coffee at the local coffee shop for the past few years and now half the group is gone.I have thought they could just move the heated discussions or inappropriate content into a side room.Maybe call it the VIP room or the EXECUTIVE room or something like that.."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
christmas came early this year and I bought myself this carpet stretcher at harbor freight todayhttp://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=2692."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
This is what I'm thinking about buying next:A power stretcher at Harbor Freight for only $49http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=93152I think it has a 90 day warranty."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
I haven't done too much carpet but do know that kneekicker tool is a torture piece left over from the Inquisition.
I decided if I ever did carpet again that spider stretching tool is the only way to go.
Looks kinda cheap tho' and don't know how much mileage you'll get compared to buying a better brand used off ebay.

The power stretcher at Harbor Freight is very poorly made and I would rate the quality of the tool at "one" on a scale of ten.It only extends up to 59 inches and the head is too small.I think it would be a waste of money.I looked at a pawn shop today and their used knee kicker were $50 to $60 which is too highI new knew kicker at HD is $89They did not have a power stretcher at the pawn shopThanks for the tip about ebay I hadn't thought about that and I took a look and wow they have a lot of carpet tools for saleThanks again!."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
Just trying to keep you from growing too old before the time.
lol."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
Why don't you rent the tools?
that's a good pointI can rent everything I need at home depotthey charge $15 a day for knee kickI'm just a DIY and last week I did my hallway Today I'll do one bedroom.Tomorrow I'll put everything back in place and then start on the next bedroomI'll move everything out of the next bedroom and then slowly install the next piece of carpetIt will be four days, at least, to do four rooms. I'm slow.Last week I rented the knee kick for $15 at HDI'm looking at my bill and I see they charged me $1.50 for their "damage protection program"Why am I paying that?I don't think I can damage a knee kick?I need to just go ahead and buy the tools. This is another one of these deals where I buy the tools and "maybe" using them once a year. In summary, I'll just close by saying this is just another SNAFU I've encountered trying to work on a house I'm living in.If the house were vacant I could put in all the carpet and rent the power stretcher and pay the one day fee and get it done.I've got a list of tools and rental prices from HD and I see they charge $28 per day for the power stretcher. ."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
give me a call, come over and borrow my strecthers, tell you the truth i'll have to look for em it's been so long since i used them. larry

Thanks Larry, I'll call you tomorrow on Sunday."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
Larry, the carpet stretcher you loaned me works great. There's no way a knee kicker will stretch the carpet like a good stretcher.I got one bedroom and the hallway stretched in place and it looks really good.Yesterday we talked about floor refinishing, and I've got a name and phone number of the guy I told you about and I'm emailing it to you Thanks again!."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"

We've been pretty happy with Empire Today. We used them twice, and both times their prices seemed a bit less than the box stores, for carpet we were really happy with. I'm sure it won't be as cheap as somebody's used carpet, but you're going to have a hard time finding that - I reckon.
Thanks I appreciate it!
No problem, the guy buys a lot of advertising on tv in Kansas City. Thought I saw one in Wichita a few years ago so I looked it up on-line. Stay away form the website major clunker and slow.
Congrats on being in one of the few area in the country where the median home sale price has gone up. Things are bad up here in Johnson County, nothing selling, three for sale on my street but no takers but that could be because nobody want to pay 159,900 for a two bedroom even if the guy throws in the "free wall" if the price is right to add a third bedroom.
lol....I like that one....."free wall special"
The flyer said two bedrooms, third bedroom possible. Owner will install "free wall special" if price is right for third bedroom.
Think the guy might be a cubical wall salesman. :o)
Have you ever looked at some of that really cheap carpet? It's so thin I think I could pick up the entire roll and carry it by hand.At least you don't need a fork lift.;)
douglas county ain't a whole lot better.
Hmmmmm.......NAGIV must be CAG's wife......
lol.....good one."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
not quite.
I'm probably just going to go ahead and spend the extra money to buy the same carpet and have the carpet match in the hallway, and each of the three bedrooms.I've seen homes where there is a different carpet in every room.I'm not an interior decorator and so I think it's fine to do things that way (especially if the carpet is new in each room)But since I'm trying to sell the house I think I'll be conservative and not take chances and just go ahead and match the carpet in all rooms..."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
Probably easier to sell the house if everything is neutral and new.
If you start selecting different colors etc you might not make choices "everyone" will like.
It was a joke man!
Lighten up or you'll get booted again :o)
Do me a favor and bitch about me to the mods. I need the badge of honor you get from being booted.
P.S. If you want to go to war I'm right behind yah.
I have two good sized, well stocked carpet remnant warehouses I can shop at. Vic
Sounds good - what I'm looking at right now is saving a few bucks and putting some remnants in the bedrooms VS buying $9 - $10 a yard carpet and having all three bedrooms match (and match what I currently have in the hallway)What would you do? Would you want the carpet to match throughout the house?."My wife ran away with my best friend and I miss him"
