PaulB,
there are a lot cheaper places to buy lumber..
Are we talking about the same place? The flooring distributor? I'm not looking necessarily for the cheapest place, but their prices seem very good if the stuff is as good as they claim.
I bought some "maple" prefinished 3/4" hardwood from them for a 10x10 walk in closet. Its a closet so I didn't want to spend that much. We'll, I bought 110 sq ft of the "maple" when they were doing their sale in the spring. The "maple" was actually maple and birch mixed and somehow during the sanding process before the finish, there were drum sanding marks about every 3 feet. You can't see the drum sanding marks that well and birch and maple look similar so very few would notice the different grains, but if it were not a closet, I would have flipped.
The quality I think is so so. Where ever you live, I would go where the flooring guys go. Mirage is very good if you want prefinished.
Since you live in CT, look at http://www.hobokenfloors.com/contact/proshop-locations.cfm

Just got a flier in the mail yesterday from Lumber Liquidators. Apparently they are having a big clearance sale - one day only - Sat. April 23.
Looks to be franchise wide from the flier.
I have not used them and have no opinion of their materials - just posted this for anyone interested.
nerver used them myself, but hey, Rush Limbaugh advertises for them!!!!!
Take that for what it's worth!

It's O.k. to think out of the box, Just don't walk off of the plank!
You can run a search here and elsewhere on the web to find a multitude of horror stories about them.
The short of it is that if you pick it up yourself, and they have what satisfies you that day, and you likle the price, treat it as a liquidation sale, no return, no service kindof a deal.
because that is what it is.
If you want higher quality flooring and some modicum of service, look elsewhere.
I did one, and only one deal with them. It took hours of attempted unreturned phone calls to make it happen. The HO wanted to use them and they were paying cost plus for my time, but I could NEVER be able to deal with them on any kind of professional basis, - because they are not pros, they are liquidators.

Thanks Oracle... I'll pass that on to the HO and we'll both be forewarned.
Hey, if I'd have know Rush Limppaw was shilling for them, I'd never have bought from them. However, I did, and I was very satisfied with the quality and price. Granted, I saved a bundle by driving from Madison, WI to Chicago to pick it up, but in the end it was worth it. Purchased light Brazilian cherry in 1/2" prefinished T&G - installation (my first) was a snap, technical services from their office was very helpful, and the floor looks great.
Some family members bought flooring from Lumber Liquidators. They had no problems and really loved the Bella Wood flooring. We do have a Lumber Liquidators store in this area though.
I don't think they are solely into the liquidation business, although they may have been at one time (as their name suggests). I have received their catalog, and it appears that they carry a bunch of products, the majority not being liquadations. It appears that they run their own flooring manufacturer called "Bella Wood" based out of Virginia.
Seems like mixed results from them and I'm not sure that's something I want to chance at least not on this particular job but I may take a drive to their place at some point to have a look see. Thanks!
Bought 900 sq.ft of #1 2 1/4" Oak from them 4 years ago. Installed in my own house, no problems with it!
Did 650 sq.ft. about 4 weeks ago, same stuff unfinished oak. Still no problems!
The warehouse they work out of, looks a little shakey, but thats the only negtive I can say about them. The price was about 20% less then anybody else.
If you go with the Oak, they sell nice flush mount heat registers for $25 each, makes the finish product look nice!
producing their own line of product does not change the fat that the way they choose to do business is as a liquidator. Customers themselves are treated as liquidatable commoditites. They don't have any reason to treat a person right, because they are constantly bringing in new customers by advertising as the cheapest on the block.I'm a cuistomer and pro who works on repeat business and relationsships with people. I don't liquidate my customers and don't put myself in the position where I can be liquidated. So I go back to my same position, - that if cheap and available is all you want, go for it, but if it isn't right there available and you need it ordered, or a better quality product, don't wait on them to satisfy you

The 600 sf of beech I got was fine, no problems 2 years later, but the salesmen were a bunch of creeps. As much as I overheard one guy lie over the phone and to customers faces, I almost walked out without the floor. Thinking there must be something very wrong w/ the product, if they are piling it on that deep. Same guy "accidentally" added $2 a sf to the wood I was buying.
We used them once. Never again. You get what you pay for. Poorly run facilities and the products were low grade at best. Finish's were uneven, you name it.
If the stuff is in Bob Vila's home, then its probably the home he owns that his ex-wife lives in!
