That’s it. I have learned my lesson. The quality of help has degraded so badly at the lumber places that serve us here, that the only things I will buy from them are those basic lumber and materials that I want delivered.
All the other stuff they sell in their stores, hardware, closet stuff, hangers, kitchen and bath stuff, paint, etc., they have proven to me that they can mess up, almost every time, the simplest orders when I call them in for delivery.
Even wood moldings. My orders come to me doubled, halved, wrong molding, you name it. It is becoming a joke. I used to get mad, now I just laugh.
Everybody, it seems, from the manager on down, just wants to function as a checkout counter stooge. You bring it to me, I’ll scan the UPC, you sign the slip.
So my new years resolution regarding all these guys is this. Sell me your sticks, sheets, paper, shingles, and maybe windows and doors. But for everything else, I am going to Depot or Lowe’s. For me, each is a hour trip just one way, and Depot requires a ferry ride, but I know I will get what I need, when I need it.

I know what you're talking about. Around here (So. Cal.) the lumber yards are in the business of selling lumber, doors and windows- basically the rough frame package. The other things you find on their shelves are only there for convenience. Usually you'll find a pretty good layer of dust on them which tells you how often the stuff is turned over.
I keep my expectations limited when buying from the local yards. I do get pretty upset though, when they forget to send me washers and nuts along with the lumber drop and we don't discover it until we start framing.
I agree with you and Ill post more to you in the other thread.
