Probably a dumb question, but here goes it:
I have left-over colored non-sanded grout that we used on the floor for our bathroom remodel (not more than a few months old). I am under the impression that I need sanded-grout for the bath surround (1/8″ joints, but a couple that are a tad bigger). It would be great if I could use the old stuff it in the bath surround, rather than buying new.
Question #1: Do I need sanded, or is the non-sanded fine?
Question #2: If I need sanded, can I add sand to what I have? and in what proportion?
Thanks in advance for your help.

a surround (walls) gets non-sanded normally and the floor gets sanded....
non-sanded in a 1/8" joint should be fine...
never added sand to or made up any sanded grout before... The stuff is cheap enough not to risk jepordizing the job.. yur guess is as good as mine...
perhaps play sand and mix it up till it looks right.. don't think it will take very much...
then what are ya going to do with the 49 pounds of sand ya got left over...
probably cost about as much fer the sand as it would fer the sanded grout...

WOW!!! What a Ride!
They do sell small containers of sand (1 pint??) for mixing with paint to make textured paint...the container may have instructions for grout...
But, you should not need to do so...wall tile gets non-sanded grout usually....
Thanks for the repsonses. Was a dumb question afterall, but I like the answers.
