Makita 1″ rotary hammer drill any good?
HD nearby has a deal on a Makita 1″ SDS rotary hammer/drill with a 4″ angle grinder included for 140$ Comes with 5 bits too…
Is this rotary hammer comparable to the bosch?
Anybody have it? LIke it?
Seems like a good deal considering the bosch is at least 220$ for the smaller of the two I know of.
Thx,
pat

I have not used the 1" but I have run their 1-9/16" SDS-Max hammer for 8 hours a day three days straight with a 1-1/2' bit in limestone and the tool never even got hot.
My opinion of Makita industrial tools is they are excellent.
Are the 1" SDS tools/bits most popular just for drilling?
I would say yes, in a 1 inch range rotary hammer. Sds rotary hammers usually go up to about 1and a half inches, Sds max and spline drive hammers range to larger diameter ratings. The way I look at it is there is kind of a heirarchy. Sds or sds plus (same thing) is in general less powerful or should I say found in less powerful units than sds max and sds max is in general less powerful than a spline drive hammer.
Sds bits are the most economical form of rotary hammer bit. some sds max and spline drive bits can range easily into the 200 dollar range for one bit.
Hope this helps.

Considering that was priced at $239 n ot that long ago - it's a no-brainer.
The grinder would cost you probably $65 or so, the diamond wheel would be $25 so and the rotary hammer should be at least $155 by itself - and that would be a great deal.
Get it -no regrets.

I picked one up from HDtools, and it is fantastic. Very low vibration, I have used it for tons of tapcon pilot holes, some bigger holes and alot of concrete chipping, busting up old tile, It is amazing how fast it mows into concrete, hollow block, brick, and other stuff.
The only bad thing I can say about it is that you really have to push it hard, too hard to drill holes if you have the drill in reverse.
Boy I felt like a dolt after leaning so hard on the drill for three holes and then realizing, oh. its in reverse (it has a foward biased motor)
It is easy to knock into reverse, but folks less dense then I relize quickly that its in reverse
The included bits are VERY short, but moderately useful, I ended up buying longer versions of all of the bits. The grinder is very nice, so I give it two thumbs up.
That's funny.
I'll learn to use the R and F first.
The uses you describe--exactly what I want it for. Sick of doing the holes for tapcons with my 18v dw cordless hammer drill.
I have 2 grinders already, one variable speed, so I'll keep the new one and give my other ol' makita to my diy'er buddy, who has the rest of my worn out tools.
Cheers,
Pat
