a little while back i got the new makita 18v lithium ion cordless combo kit…hammer drill, impact drill, circ. saw, and flashlight…this kit is incredible…lithium ion is the only way to go (until they come up with a newer technology of course)
these batteries last longer than reg. 18 v batteries…and the 18v drill feels like an old 14v drill…
oh, and anyone who has yet to enter the realm of the impact drill…you have no idea what you r missing…they almost make regular drills unnecessary…
i use the drill for drilling and the impact does ALL the screwing…

What are you guys paying for these ? I might go local. Might go online. Think I can talk the 4pc down to $550 ?Also, I THINK Makita is doing another promotion this month 4pc and choose a tool type deal.
I paid $572 with free shipping and coupon for free recip saw at heavydutytools.net
$550 from a local joint would be a very good deal if you could get it I think.View Image
I just checked the Mak site, nothing on any promos, yet. When and if they do, however, I'm making the commitment.

Not a bad price, but no promo for a free saw

I bought the kit from Amazon some months back,$430 delivered.
Saturday the power was out on the job for about 3 hours.Used the skil saw to cut roof plywood for about 45 sheets on a hip. Even though I'm getting a ittle over the hill, it kept up to me and two guys doing the sheathing.
I like everything about the kit, except the bag.

$430 ! You stole that thing.Did you get the "free" tool w/ it for that price ?I'm shooting for $525-550 soon as that new deal comes out.

I had to wait 13 weeks, but the free sawzall showed up, and it is much better than I expected. I am very happy with the kit, even though it"s probably not in the same league as 36 volt Dewalt, its probably not as heavy either

as far as price goes, i'm sure the 36v dewalt is in a league all by itself lol...i have the makita kit and it rules...can't live without the impact...
Is that 45 sheets of cut on one battery? If it is Damn you Bosch.

Probably had six full sheets, the rest had anywhere from 24 " to 70" cuts.Used just one battery, although it was just 1/2" plywood.
The more I use the kit, the more I like it.

I found a deal on an almost new kit today.Makita Lith-Ion 18v 4pc. cordless (HammerDrill, Impact, Circ.Saw, & Flashlite)--was a showroom demo, but I could see no signs of use. Missing the bag, but marked down to $529 (from $629) at Homers.I'll put the tools through their paces tomorrow.
You won't miss the bag, especially if you got the sawzall. The bag is great- for carrying your lunch.
Greg In Connecticut
What don't you like about the bag? I think it's a little too padded and bulky-it's almost like a hard case in that you can't really fold it up. Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
How bout a update hows it work? What's your thought on the circ saw? Am i gonna be junkin my junkin 18v bosch?
I've yet to have a chance to really even use it yet, but I'll let you know when I do.View Image
If anyone is still interested in a rebate for a free 18volt lxt recipro saw with the purchase of the 4 piece combo kit and has a Mastercard construction card, they may want to check this out.
http://www.mastercard.com/us/business/en/smallbiz/specialoffers/construction_offer.html
or... http://makita.com/mastercard.htm . I tried editing this url into the previous post but it wouldn't take for some reason. I doubt anyone has this particular card but if you do or could get it before 8-31-06 it could be of use.
Thanks. Unfortunately, all my cards are Visa. Otherwise, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Curious, the promo isn't listed under the Mak site. Wonder why?

That's my problem, I have the Visa business card. I guess I should check visa's website to see if they offer any rebates for construction businesses. As far as not being listed on Makita's site, I don't know, maybe oversite or they want it kept a secret only known to mastercard users??
My SIL has the kit, and LOVES it. He tried to talk me into it, but I have a lot of 14.4 yellow stuff......
The Mak 18v Impact Driver is quite a bit smaller than the yellow 14.4....and feels lighter too.
However, w/ 8-9 14.4 yellow batteries alying around, I don't want to have four new tools sharing two new batteries.
sorry to rain on your parade, but ... we've had the drill only on site since April - great, powerful, long lasting, until the clutch stripped. It's at the repair station now, and I'm reasonably confident that Makita will honor their three year warranty, but I MISS IT BADLY for last ten days of work!!!
