I’m looking at purchasing this saw for trim work and wondered what likes/dislikes people have with it. I read a review on amazon.com from a guy who
said the bevel adjustment can be faulty because
of a plastic plate that the adjustment gear rides on. Any experiences with this? Thanks

The fence sucks. The motor is phenomenal, with a good blade it rips wood up almost like my Powermatic. I don't like the switch, but am used to it.

*I agree with Mad Dog. I bought my 2703 about a month ago and am very happy with it except for the fence.
*I've had one about 6 months and just tolerated the fence until a month ago I popped for the Rousseau drop in table for about $275. Now I love the saw. With that table its far better than the main competition for only a little more money.
*I agree--dump the fence system, get a Rousseau drop-in, and you're all set. Changing blades is hard, but I can rip down 8/4 Oak with no problem. I don't even have a cabinet saw--this little thing does just about everything you want it to.
*Yeah, that Rousseau system kicks butt, I should've mentioned that too!
*I too love the Rousseau system with the out feed table, the fence works well and stays put. I routed a hole in the side extension and put a drop in lean plate for the outer, and an adjustable fence that clamps onto the saw fence to let the bit have clearance as well as a dust collection hookup.

*Yes, fantastic motor, and with the Rousseau stand, almost as handy as my Unisaw (only a lot more portable.) Just was ripping 4x4's in half yesterday with it, very smoothly. That is a task the Unisaw won't do, as it only rips to 3" deep.Bill

*Yup, MAKITA!!!!!
*I still like this saw, but I just hate the switch- maybe someday I'll do something about it. I also don't care for how all the paint is falling off the Rousseau table- still works great, but sure looks tacky.
*What is this I hear about the 2703 mitre gauge slot being too small to accept aftermarket gauges? Comments on this issue please. From an Amazon.com review:"As a long term owner of the Makita 2708, I was at first overjoyed to hear of their portable 10" thatwould drop right into my existing Rousseau stand, and best of all, they replaced the elevation knob with a speedy crank! Then I actually saw one, and much to my dismay it became apparent that Makita wanted to play the same games they played with the 2708 - the Miter slot is slightly under the world-wide 3/4" standard, which means none of the superb aftermarket saw accessories are usable with this saw. To add insult to injury, the only accessory Makita offers is the standard miter gauge. What a waste!"
*The report is exactly right. The slot is not only narrower(15 mm, around 5/8", vs standard 3/4"), but more importantly shallower (4 mm, around 3/16", vs standard 3/8") than normal tablesaw slots. It is annoying if you intend to use aftermarket jigs, etc. I ended up making my own sliders from hardwood, but the shallower slots are still not as secure as full depth slots. The rest of the saw is solid and stands up to abuse, and is precise with aftermarket fence attached, but sometimes i think about getting another one with full size slots if I ever have to replace it.hope this helps. rich.
