I have the Bosch dual 10′ saw now, and it is the best compound miter saw I have used. But now I am looking for a lighter saw for those smaller jobs where I dont need the big 50# Bosch. Has anyone used the 27# Makita LSO714 7 1/2 compound miter saw? Used the hitachi 8 1/4 in the past but I dont like that miter scale. There isnt a Makita around here to look at.
Thanks.

yeah I have been eye balling that sucker too. really love the weight on it and how inexpensive it would be to buy new blades. the 50lb dewalt has been taking its toll on me...very pricey $400 lowest I have seen! Yikes!
I've noted that the weight of the DeWalt is a big negative but then, what 12 inch cms is a light weight? I really want to get the new DeWalt saw but I don't know how it's quality stacks up to it's earlier model of 3 to 4 years ago. Has anyone got some answers for me on that?
I have the new DeWalt SCMS 12" 718. It's a great saw, but I also have the old 705 and frankly I think that is about the best trim saw ever made. They're on sale all over the place now for around $225...a real steal. I still prefer to use that.
The 718 is much better than the first type that they had out for all those years, it doesn't wander as much and it has more options like bevel detents. Put a Forrest blade on and away you go. Make sure you adjust it after you take it out of the box. I bought a little BB-Q led clamp light , because I can't see as well as I used to, and it's just the bees knees for getting those close in cuts. The 718 takes a little getting used to is all.
I have your same situation. I love the bosch , but it is too big to carry everywhere. So went out and bought the Dewalt 10" 703. It was very lightweight and very accurate...works like a dream on most trim. Has crown stops for crown moulding that I use quite often. works great.....

Yes, that DW is certainly on my short list. I am hoping to both keep down the weight and also keep the capacity of the slide. But I'd like to here from someone who has experience with the makita before plunking down the bucks...
I had a GC who used this Makita and he loved it. But it's about $250 more than the Dewalt. For that money, it should be better! Last summer, I went to the store noted in the link and they directed me to the Dewalt, FIW. It's been great! (I've been shopping there for years...I just noticed their website in recent weeks. I wonder if that coincides with the fact that they no longer put prices on their tools in the store!!)

Guy i work with was like why dont you just get a stand with wheels for the miter saw... bosch has one. Thought about it as a possible solution. I take the miter saw in the room I am in so I dont have to re-measure or walk back and forth (saves me time). Also thought about the bosch battery powered bugger... Someone needs to come out with a small saw that is inexpensive.
I bought the makita LS1013L compound saw and I absolutely love it. I bought the Dewalt stand for it. This is about my 7th saw over the years and by far the best. The lazer when set up works perfectly. I do nothing but fine trim. For anything rough I use my old delta compound saw with frame.
Job sites have all the usual suspects but seldom have a Makita, probably because of price but more would be out there if everyone new it was half as noisy and twice as accurate.
That said I treat my saw like a baby. I don't throw it in the truck bed to rattle around or let anyone chop form material with it.
I've been working on a lullaby to sing to it at the end of the day, it deserves nothing less. 8)

I'm with ya man!
I bought the Makita LS1013L this summer and love it!
I had the Milwaukee slider and I could never keep it set, what a pain in the azz.
I baby mine as well and when you get the words to that lullaby written forward them along!

I bought the Makita LS 1013 when they first came out and paid $699.Its a great saw.. but for what I paid it should be singing me the lullaby.
It does! Can't you hear it everytime you pull the switch? It's the quieter lullaby the one that is kind soothing to your ears. Not that screeching heavy metal from those others.
I agree. What a saw. Mine is sitting about 5' behind me, in the hallway of my apartment. I still don't feel like I baby it enough. Sometimes the poor thing has to cut framing lumber.zak

Youre right, it is about the quietest saw I have seen...and the soft startis a nice feature too. There are alot of screechers out there, I couldnt handle that all day long.
I have looked at the Makita LS 0714 and its a nice little saw. Very compact, smooth and lightweight. The only drawback is the small 7 1/2 " blade has a cutting capacity of 2 1/16"x 11 3/4" at 90.
I asked the guys at 7 Corners Hardware about it and they said the flooring guys really like it. For half as much you could get a 10" compound non-slider that weighs about the same or maybe a little more.
I finally got to see one. Our makita supplier has never had one before, but coupole days ago got one in. It is not a dual compound like I thought. While very light and seemingly well made I am headed in the direction of the 10" miter as you and several of the other guys have mentioned. I just did not want to go backwards- got use to the dual compound Bosch and dont want to give it up....lightness and portability will probably win this one. Thanks for checking in wood4rd.

By the way to answer your question, I think Makita makes a hell of a saw, and have used the 71/4. Great for the small stuff.
I'm happy with my Hitachi 10". I tried to find the same saw without a lazer which I find almost useless. A bit pricey perhaps but a nice saw.
