Makita LS0714 CMS – yes another CMS Q?!
Hi, first post here… did a search, but found nothing.
I saw the Makita LS0714 (it’s a 7 1/4″) slider and was wondering if anyone has experience with it? (my 12″ non-slider is showing its age – and I’m tired of lugging it around when I have no need for the 12″ blade)

It will cut a compound 2×8, yet is very small and lightweight (28#). It is not a dual bevel – but I’m used to that.

Makita makes a 10" version of the dual compound slider....nice compromise between the big 12" honker & a little 7 1/4 IMHO
They have been selling them in England and Japan. Are they selling them here now, or are you from England or Japan? (Your profile doesn't say.)
Personally, I would not want to buy something that takes a 7 1/2" blade - could you use a 7 1/4"?

I'm on Cape Cod, MA. It's at a local store, but not a stock item. I'm going to pick it up in an hour or so.
I agree that the 7.5" blade is odd... but a 'couple three' spares would quite a while - for me (and in a bind it does appear that a 7.25" would fit)
it seems to me that it's the ideal saw for trim work no?
Looks like this one is a winner. Very light, 18" total width, blade is at 6K rpm...extremely accurate, made in Japan, fantastic quality.
Glad I bought it, and already made some cuts that would have been on the table saw had I not purchased this little monster. In about a week it'll get a real workout on the job.
Do YOu have a price on that saw?
It was $430
So you have had this saw for a couple of weeks, any comments? I am looking for a light trim saw but the 7 1/2 blade scares me. Couple of mfg's make ####8 1/2, but they are 40-50 lbs.
So far it has been great - much better than expected. Accurate and repeatable (but it's new). It's much lighter than my tool bag! Very good dust collection, but a better test will be trimming out an interior room (starting next week) where I will have it hooked to a vacuum.
The blade speed (6000rpm) makes a glass smooth cut, and no tear out. The small blade is up to speed almost instantly, and the brake works well, too. (advantage of a small, lightweight blade).
Plenty of power, in part due to a thin blade. All in all, I think it's great!
As mentioned before - no laser and single bevel direction. OK for me as that is what I'm used too. I do believe they make it with a laser, however...
Makita may make that saw in Japan, but they also may be the only company still making sliding CMS's in the USA. Dewalt, Delta, Milwaukee, etc. make their saws in China or Taiwan.
