I live in the ‘burbs around NYC, and am thinking about installing a 3/4″ maple floor (top grade, finished on site). Area is approximately 250 square feet. This would be a professional installation. A 3/4″ plywood subfloor would need to go down first, and there would be some levelling issues as well, but nothing so terrible as to abandon the project in favor of tile.
Now the reality check: how much should I budget for this job? I’ve been told to figure $15/square ft, installed. Is this on target?

Around here, it would be about 2.50/ft just to install and double that to include finishing. Add the subfloor repairs and the location and the fact that this is a very small job, and 15 sounds like a very fair figure
Excellence is its own reward!
I just put in 100 square feet of second and better 3/4" maple. It cost the customer just about $10 per sq ft. No sub floor prep required.
This is small town Indiana.
You're saying "top grade" maple (I don't remember, but the upcharge was significant), with sub floor work involved, and you are in New York 'burbs.
I really have no idea how that translates to you, but I would be surprised if you could do it for less than the $15.
Another day, another tool.
