I have five Marvin Window casements from left to right they are – a single casement, a factory joined triple unit (operating, stationary, operating) and a single operating unit on the right. I want to remove the single unit on the left from the string (to make room for a doorway in the addition) and substitute the operating window for the stationary unit in the factory joined string. Can this be done? If I remove the stationary panel from the jamb can I install the operating mechanism in the jamb?

Maybe. The sash and jambs are basically the same (assuming the same size and all that). However, I know whether you can transfer the jamb insert that contain the locking hardware -- I bet you can. If that fails, you can just transfer the jambs too -- this might provide less labor & better aligned results if you can open the wall and pop the whole unit into the mulled set, attaching to the existing casing.
*GeorgeYou may want to try calling Marvin. When I have bought mulled units (two or more joined together)they have been single units fastened to each other with a common sill accross the bottom. You should be able to disassemble the individual units and re-assemble them on the same sill. Provided the units are worth doing. The only problem is that the mulled jambs are cut short and tenon into the sill. The outer jambs run full length to support the window. You will have to cut one short and shim the other but it certainly seems do-able.If they are not too old and you don't mind spending a little coin you can get the build number off the jamb side of your sashes and order new jambs and sills and keep your existing sash (including keeping the fixed sash.Considering buying the whole works new would cost you over $800 there is some incentive to re-use the sash and jambs where possible.-Rob
