How can I stop screw heads from ghosting? 6″sheetrock screws through 1/2″ ceiling drywall and 4″ of polyisocyanurate into 2×6 cardeck roof sheathing are conducting cold spots that condense moisture and attract dust. The ceiling is pockmarked with gray dots. I have two solutions: cover the existing sheetrock with another layer of glued on sheetrock(the glue must adhere to existing paint), or nail on t&g paneling and paint it. Any other ideas?

You said they were sheetrock screws, what were they composed of? How deep did you set them, (how much mud is on top of the heads) and what type of paint is used? Any primer?
Without more info, I can't imagine going to the trouble you mentioned to solve the problem, waste of money and time although it will get quieter.

Paul, how long did it take before the spots became noticeable? Can you paint periodically? Paint the ceiling gray? Cathedral ceiling I presume?

they were 6" cadmium plated sheetrock screws, covered by less that 1/8" of mud and primer and paint of unknown quality.
They certainly transfer cold efficiently. I have increased fourfold the existing ventilation which should help remove excess moisture that has been condensing on the screw heads and catching dirt.
The condition could quiet down.

*I don't know how long before the spots became noticeable, but probably less that 6 months. Yes they could paint at intervals and they could use gray camoflage paint. You're right about the cathedral. I can't fathom why they covered a 2x6 t&g spruce cardeck ceiling with foam and sheetrock, but they did.PEDav
