   *Frank,I'm no masonry expert, but in the research I did on this very topic a couple years ago for my own house, I concluded that it's mainly inefficiency. With a masonry fp, a good deal of the chimney down near the firebox will get warm and thus radiate heat. So, it's best to keep that chimney in the house, rather than on an exterior wall. I opted for a Rumford instead of a Temp-cast mainly just because they cost so darn much. Our fp is smack dab in the middle of the house, and the chimney rises up 3 stories to exit out at the peak. Can't wait for the first fire.Matt

   *Matthew,Please let me know what you think of the Rumford.I like the idea of a masonary stove. However I am on a budget and don't really feel like laying out 5-10,000 for the finished chimney, stove, facing masonary.The Tulikivi's are really pretty. The tempcast looks kind of boxy for the Georgian house I want to buid.Do you have a feel for how much more heat you get with a Rumford rather than the usual fireplace?ThanksFrank

   I am researching masonary stoves for the house I am planing.I 've read that they really work best when the chimeny is not on an exterior wall but is mostly within the house. I don't know if this is practicle with the houseplan I am looking at.How badly does it screw things up to use an exterior chimeny?Will it just make it less efficent or will it effect the draft.
