Another question. I have to “fur” out some walls that are made of solid masonary. Brick over tile (that old large glazed terra cotta type). Mostly out of plumb. I am planning to build a wall inside of masonary wall of 1 5/8″ steel studs to perserve space. Should I do it this way? If so should I fasten the steel studs somewhere along its length to the wall for strength. Any suggestions. Thank you Liam

I don't understand what you have in mind. Will the new wall be sheetrock? If so, fasten the top and bottom tracks to the ceiling and floor, and the studs can be just screwd to the track.

Thank you. It is what I decided to do with added bracing in the middle since it is a narrow metal stud. Liam
fasten to the floor and cieling or joist and rock to the studs...
basically build a curtain wall in front of yur masonary wall...

Agree with you on this one, but add the stiffener rib at the mid line of a 2x2 metal studs. Standard 26 or 28 ga metal 2x2 studs are pretty flimsy and flex a lot when trying to hang board on them. The stiffening rib at midpoint ties them all together and take a most of the flex out of them. It also keeps them from rolling away from the screw when the screw is not dead center or is too close to the open side of the stud.

Thank you for help. I will plan to do it that way. Liam
What kind of wall are you really asking about? A masonry wall or a masonary wall?

Every crowd has one. Thank you for the help. Liam
If it is a party wall and sound is an issue then do not attach it to the existing wall.
