Would like to know the best way to trim raised panel masonite doors (hollow core). Most of them only need a heavy eighth or so, some up to a quarter inch, but when I try to trim them with a skilsaw I can’t seem to get a clean cut even using a guide, the saw keeps wandering. Was thinking of buying a plainer, is this a good idea? If so which is a good one to get? Thanks all

Search for the "shortening pre-hung doors" thread.
Jeff Buck has a nice method that works well.

Mick, you trying to shorten them or narrow them? To width, plane. To length, circ saw and a shoot board or clamp a straight edge. If an even cut for length, you should be able to do it with a rip guide on that circ. saw. best of luck.

Calvin, shortening them is no problem, getting the width is what isn't working out. Maybe a new blade will do it, but even using a guide clamped the saw seems to bind and doesn't flow smoothly keeps making irregular cuts, messed up two doors already. Glad there cheapies.

Electric plane even the Black and Decker model works great. Check your local Dewalt repair shop for replacement carbide blades at great prices. note bosch, makita, dewalt and B&d use the same blades.
Is the blade parallel to the sole of your saw? Perhaps checking that with a dial indicator will answer why the saw is binding.
Or perhaps your bearings are shot allowing the blade to assume an out of alignment posture.
Knowledge is power, but only if applied in a timely fashion.
