I drove to Mexico a few weeks ago and purchased a canterra stone fountain. Although I’ve done plenty of masonry work before (brick, stone & block), I haven’t done anything like this. So, some questions.
The fountain has 12 blocks that form the 7′ diameter base or pool. The center piece has 8 pieces, which include 3 tiers — these will combine to make the fountain 7 feet high.
My Questions:
Are there any special precautions I should take in putting the fountain together?
Should I use a regular mortar mix?
Should I apply some type of sealer to the mortar joints after the fountain is complete?
Finally, how should I seal the pool part of the fountain?
BTW, I live in Arizona — no concern re: freezing.
Thanks for any input you might have OR any sources you might refer me to.
Dan.

Dan,
I am not a mason so I can't advise on assembly or correct mortar. However there is a company called Hydro-Stop (www.hydrostop.com) that makes a waterproofing system that is mixed with portland cement and troweld on.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your project.
