I am planning to build a masonry stove and am wondering if hollow silo brick could be used on the outer shell over the firebrick. I have several thousand curved brick 4 1/2 inch thick, 6 1/2 inch tapering to 5 1/2 inch in width and 7 1/4 inch in depth. Each brick has 6 square holes about an inch apart. I am concerned these mortar holes would affect the strength under heat and also lessen the desired mass for heat retention. Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.
