Match ceiling fans or diff in each room?

JohnT8 | Posted in General Discussion on August 4, 2006 11:22am

When installing 3 or 4 ceiling fans in a house (LR, MBR, BR2, BR3) do you typically get the same fan or different for each room?

Are you talkin' different sizes, different styles, or both?

      Yes.

[edit] OK, I'll explain my thinking..

I tend to buy different fans for different rooms.  LR & MBR gets a big, fancier fan than would BR2/BR3.  Depending on how large BR2/3 is, they might get a smaller fan.

But I didn't know if everyone else does this or  not.  I know some of the cheap houses going up around here have the same $29 ceiling fans (or maybe two different models) throughout the house, but I like Hunter, not "Builders Best"...and the 'cheap houses' aren't what I want to be compared to.

I dont see that it matters if the style is diff, kids room gets the one with the colored blades, living room gets one that matches the decor,...........

Seen several different ones in the same house and never gave it any thought.

I have no fashion awareness, so I just wanted to be sure putting in mismatched ceiling fans wasn't going to be like wearing sandals, black socks, and bermuda shorts :)

What are you saying about how I dress sometimes? If the weather is cold socks are good, and sometimes the black ones are the clean ones. :-)

I don't see why they have to match, myself.  Some people would want them to match, I suppose.  I think a larger type in the LR, and smaller but proportionally sized ones in the BR would be better.

I recently saw an article describing what size fan blades to use based on room square footage, It may have been in a FHB article.

I'll see if I can find it.

I don't see how it matters if you switch up styles in different rooms

I have a mixture in my house - some with light kits and some without.  Three have remote controls and two have chains.

The three with remotes are Hunter or Casablanca.  The chain operated fans are some el cheapo's ($15) I got at Home Depot about 6-7 years ago.  They're on their last legs (noisy on fast speed) so I'll probably replace them soon.  Since my fans run 24/7/365 (I reverse them in winter), I would buy two more of the el cheapo's in a heartbeat - lol.

If you happen by a Lowes, run by and see if they have any Hunters on clearance.  I ended up picking up two (mentioned it in the bargain thread).  Both Lowes here in town had 3-6 models on clearance.

Don't know if they had remotes though.  I got an $89 clearanced for $44.  Just missed getting an $80 clearanced for $39.  First one was a $200(169) clearanced for $84.

Dripping faucets and noisy ceiling fans get on my nerves.  I gotta get Hunter.jt8

This is almost funny.....I just bought new fans for my whole house. I got 2 diferent ones for living room and ( strange to some) , dining room and then got the same type for bedrooms. My bedrooms upstairs are all near same size though. I say get what ya want.On the flipside I will never get a fancy fan if I am just gonna move out soon .
