Question to all. I am bulding doors and trim for a outside storage building can I use MDF for this applications and if so what prep or treatment needs to be done to the MDF prior to installation.

If they'll be flat on the outside. use MDO(Medium Density Overlay). MDO has a paper surace that is more resistant to moisture. It's also used for highway signs and you know they last a long time. Alkyd primer and paint would probably be best.
If the doors/trim will be exposed to the elements, MDF would not be a good choice. However, if this stuff is inside the storage building (and protected from rain, etc), it would work ok if painted.
Otherwise, as suggested above, MDO is the best alternative.

Is this stuff going to be exposed to the weather?
If so dont use MDF, there is a MDF product that is for exterior use, I believe its called medex. Its a bit pricy.
Other wise use the MDO as suggested.
