I suppose I should be posting this over on the Knots, but since I have been hanging out here forever it seems, perhaps you can help me.
Some fool glued mirror tiles to a cabinet door, not realizing that because it is so big the flexing would cause the mirrors to break. This fool further glued the tiles so they were touching, causing them to wear against each other, causing further sources of cracking. I don’t want to mention who the fool was, but his initials are JohnD1.
Well, I have gotten the mirrors off of the door. It is was cabinet grade plywood; it is now cabinet-grade plywood with gouges and glue traces on it.
Talking with the bathroom designer (DW), it would seem that the best course of action would be to glue good-quality wood-grain melamine on the surface. BUT WHERE DO YOU GO TO GET THIS STUFF????
The big boxes only have the cheap stuff that fails to look like granite, designed for counter tops. And, I live in the Chicago area and cannot find it.

Well, if you want melamine I think Chinese dog food is the best source. If you want "plastic laminate" I think you should look for someone who sells that, or Formica, to name a brand. Or look on Craig's List: http://nmi.craigslist.org/hsh/1779376622.html
I am not sure that I need more melamine for my dog; his bones seem stiff enough as it is <G>
But thanks for the search idea; I found at least one source not too far from my home (Paxton Wood).
Melamine covered particle board?
Available here at a place called Toledo Plywood.
Any Chicago Plywood in town?
I can only assume this is what you are after-1/2 or 5/8's or 3/4" pb, with various colored covers-most avail-white, almond, black............
