I’m trying to get some advice on removing metal door jambs. Entered a post yesterday, and even though I appreciate the reply, it didn’t tell me anything about removing the jamb, it only mentioned jamb types. Could anyone give me the low down on removing a metal door jamb in the house. I have several to do and don’t want to destroy the walls around the doors by ripping the hell out of these things. Several coats of paint make it impossible to see if there are any screw or nail heads. I’ve heard some have clips but I don’t understand how they secure the door and how to remove them. Also whats a reasonabl;e amount of time to spend getting this sucker out and getting a new pre-hung in? I don’t want to take on to much of a project in one day. Thanks Guys

Residential steel doors bucks are usually installed with nails, through the metal that forms the casing.
Sometimes they have clips which they would fasten before the drywall went on. One important thing when replacing doors of this type is that the rough openings are usually smaller than standard and will need to be enlarged before accepting a pre-hung wood unit.
*Most of the knock-down drywall frames we've dealt with have panhead screws down through the top lip of the frame and screws down on the bottom of the jambs. (sometimes the screws are in clips behind the trim.
*We can usually take a metal knock-down out in about 3-5 minutes with just a screwgun and hammer. We can install one in about 5- 10 minutes with a screwgun, hammer, and magnetic level. Hope this helps.Billy
*I cannot recall how the ones that I removed were fastened, but the clips installed with the drywall sound familiar. Start by taking the screws out of the hinges, then if there are no other obvious fastners use a big hammer to knock the bottom of each jamb towards the center of the door. After the first one you will know how they are fastned and the rest will be a lot easier. Beware of flooring that has been installed since the door. Since you are not going to re-use them you might also cut them up/out with metal cutting blade.
*IN reference to ACI's post that sounds a lot like a strandard commercial knock down door frame and I THINK that back in the day before I was born they used residential metal frames in houses that are not set up the same way. Just beware, there might not be a screw in the top jamb and not a bottom clip. If this is the case and its a commercial door than you do have it made and 5 minutes removal would be on the money.
*My guess on this and I have installed a few in my day is Mark is on the mark (no pun intended}. 5 Min . each after the 10 min. 1st one.
