Hola
we are putting in a ceiling of a Deltec home ( 18 sided polygon) essentially round building with conic section ceiling so lots of custom cuts for drywall which is why we went with lath and plaster…I asked my inspector if it was OK to nail it up with 1 1/2 & 1 1/4 roofing nails cuz I had em and no staples. he said yes but now I am wondering if it will be strong enough.
My plaster guy seems dubious but maybe because we didnt give him the lath work. he seems to think it won’t hold up and wants to staple it. My thinking is that since staples arent good enough for comp shingles the nails will be at least as strong in this application. we nailed on every rib and in between which is better than the code spec’d 6″ o.c. nailing.
any comments y’all??

I would say you are fine. We have always used a combination of nails and staples. The staples were used to help pull the lath tight and the nails for holding it up.
By the way, the staples we use were the heavy fence staples, not wide crown staples from a pneumatic stapler.
