I understand that in some areas of the South a double layer of metal roofing is used to allow a vent space between them. I had understood this to be in addition to the normal air space over the insulation under the roof. What styles and types of metal roofing is used for this. What type(s) of spacers are used and what is the common spacing between the layers. Is this actually a very common method or do they actually just use a single metal layer spaced up above some other type of roofing layer to allow the venting? (I suppose some of you Southwesterners will wonder “why bother” – after all it only gets above 120 for a few weeks in the summer up here in northern Oregon…)
