Asphalt saturated felt, "tarpaper", was recommended by my supplier, but I've read that rosin paper is better. It allows the metal to expand and contract without sticking. On the other hand, it also makes installation a little slipperier.

*Metal roofing has been discussed quite a bit here. A search of the archives and perhaps still current topics should help. I like ASTM grade #15 felt.Joe
*As Joe points out this has been discussed a Lot so maybe a visit to the archives will be helpful. My consistent theme on this subject is: Read and follow the manufacturer's installation manual. The manual is available for the asking. What is acceptable and preferred varies a little between mfg. Also, many folks have developed their own little quirks that they like but may, or may not comply with the mfg and may be a problem come warranty time.
