Hello, I am building a “hot” roof (icynene foam sprayed on the underside of roof decking) I was going to use Certainteed 30 Yr asphalt shingles because of warranty issues when somebody said why dont I use a metal roof? Has anybody had any experience with reasonably priced metal roofs in coastal New England? I have called a company called Interlock, but they have not gotten back to me yet, and I was wondering if anybody has installed a new metal roof???

metal will cost more than asphalt, but on a lifge-expectancy scale, it is less expensive pewr square foot per year of use.
in a coastal area, you want a roofer fully experienced and able to instqall without scratching the finish. you don't wabnt to see it rusting soon.

Low-priced steel roofing with enamel coating that Home Depot and lumber yards sell is quite adequate from a functional point of view, and comes in a variety of ribbed profiles, with 3' wide exposure and any custom length. About $0.70 a sq ft for the basic roofing material.
Visually they're lacking, however, and the screws with neoprene washers are exposed. At a higher price point there are some nice enamel and terne options (with no exposed fasteners) that sort of resemble standing seam roofs.
Metal, I think, is best on simple roofs; leave the complex ones to shingles. I'm in Maine, but even in CT, you'd be wise to have snow guards attached to the roof where falling snow could be a hazard. A load of snow sliding off a metal roof is loud, scary (and kind of cool if no one's below).
Two great things about metal are: no ice dam leaks, and when it finally comes time to put on a new roof, metal is 10X easier and 10X less demo waste than asphalt (and you can recycle the old metal),
it is possible to get ice damn leaks with ribbed metal.several years ago, we had a very snowy lockdown. I had a galcier on my 8/12 ribbed metal roof that sloooooowly crept down , first removing my gutter, then creeping off the eaves and curling in under like a surfer's wave. We could walk the length of the porch in an ice cave. Anyway, we had a few damn leaks that year, and the ice tore a couple heads off the screws.

we had a metal skirt installed 4' up from the eave on our place to stop leaks from ice daming (pre-water guard products), worked great no leaks ... then spring came and a sheet of ice 24' long , 1' thick and about 3' wide slid off the roof, 2 1/2 stories below ... landed on our tenant's brand new camaro, creased it from one end to the other, flattened the roof, they wrote it off!!! .. moral of the story, if you have ice daming and install metal, install rails to keep the ice in it's place
I don't suppose you got a video of that? Pretty funny, after the fact.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
