Hi, all. I’m looking for the *cheapest and easiest* DIY way to provide ceiling insulation in a 22×24 garage with 14″ I-joists on 16″ centers. This is a “lean-to” style roof located in Michigan. There are vents in the soffits. I was just going to use a stapled radiant barrier (Microfoil) but was wondering if there would be any additional benefit in adding conventional (or other) insulation above it in retaining heat while working during the winter running my lowly torpedo heater. I’ve insulated the walls with R-13 fiberglas, 6 mil vapor barrier and 7/16 OSB cover. The (high) ceiling will be exposed as I don’t want to go through the work & expense of putting any hard surfaces up there. Please be kind here, I am an old retired guy without deep pockets.
Your thoughts and reccomendations will be much appreciated.
Regards, Ritch

Have you thought about white pole barn metal for the ceiling? It's light, easy to manuever, inexpensive, and will allow you to put insulation where it counts the most.
Get it in stock sizes for lower $, don't need to cut just overlap.
I used a sheetrock lift to put it on my shop ceiling. Fastened with self-drilling pole barn screws. Piece of cake.

I am interested in learning more about this material....
I have a Gempler's catalog but don't recall seeing such an item.
I guess a farm supply house will have this ?
Thanks for any info.
I got mine at a regional DIY chain called Menard's, which also has a pole building business, hence pretty good pricing on the steel.
It's just standard 3 ft wide ribbed steel available in a variety of colors, including white and stock lengths, or cut-to-order.
Thanks for the very fast reply.
Trying to picture a "standard 3' wide ribbed steel"....
I'll look into it.
Take a drive in the country. Just about any newer ag building will be sided and roofed with it.
Went to the Menard's web site and the closest thing I can find is "Pro-Rib" steel roofing and siding.
Is that it ?
that's the stuff.
