I made the mistake of suggesting that a home owner remove an OLD mirror attached to the wall while dressing the house up for re-sale. They liked my suggestion and now want it done.
Here’s the problem this mirror is 4 ft X 6 ft. double pane. The oldest brother recalls the installer commenting it could never be removed. What kind of adhesive did they use in the 50’s (before mastic) The mirror can be broken, but how do you do this without qualifying for the Darwin awards. I also don’t want to crack the plaster wall it’s on. I also expect this thing weighs a ton.

Lots of good ideas. I have tryed the shims and heat method before and was successful in removing it in one piece. The paper on the drywall tore. I'm wondering if this will still work when glued to a plaster wall?
I like the idea about using carpet protector instead of tape.
