Went to Sears to see the slider they advertised for 199.99 but of course they did not have it… The Dewalt standard CMS was pretty nice- the controls were all so much smoother than my old Crapsman! Still, I was wondering if anyone had experience with any other CMS in the 200 dollar price range? Brands such as Hitachi, Makita, Delta, and Porter Cable I am esp. interested in, so I can make an informed choice.
Sears only had Craftsman or Dewalt. While the Dewalt is really nice, I was hoping to get some other opinions on some other brands. One thing I noticed on the Dewalt was it looked like the brushes were not replaceable! There was no slot for a screwdriver where the brushes were.

might be worth logging on to finewoodworking.com and checking out the tool comparison section. I was in there the other day looking for recommendations on a new drill.

It wasn't actually for me. A non-trades friend was looking to buy one as a gift, so I directed him to the FWW site. I have a Bosch miter saw, circ saw, and jigsaw, though - if you were wondering.Justin Fink - FHB Editorial

Actually, my friend did buy a Milwaukee. I had a Milwaukee 18v in the past, but found it too heavy for all-day use. Now I own Ridgid - can't beat the guarantee, and the quality is top notch.Justin Fink - FHB Editorial

OK. Those are close-outs.

I bought the Dewalt 10" several years ago. I'm quite happy with it. On factor for me was that it weighs about 33 pounds, so it's easy for me to carry it around on jobs.

I've had the Dewalt 12" a Loooong time - it still works perfectly.
But I wish I had a slider, esp when building cabinets & the cut doesn't make it across 11-1/4 shelving
Whatever you get, don't compromise now & regret it later
Buy the Ridgid MSUV to go with it and don't look back
