Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

Why don't you just buy a quart of the same brand?
I don't mix paint, finish, etc of any brand. It's my understanding that all manufacturers follow their own "recipe" and mixing anything may alter the quality.
I've mixed diiferent brands of latex paint and primer for work that I didn't care much about the results. I've even mixed 100% acrylic latex with regular latex. I've never had a problem.
BUT, if I actually cared about a good job in those cases, I wouldn't have mixed them, but I might have used one brand and changed brands after that coat dried.
Since it doesn't sound like either 1/2 gallon is enough for 1 coat, I would buy a second gallon of whichever you like better.
Also, the new gallon will probably be "cleaner" and make for a better final coat.
