I recently purchased a Jet 14″ closed stand bandsaw and am looking for a base that will allow me to easily move the heavy sonuvagun around my workshop. Jet (through several retailers) sells a custom base for around $90.00. However, I have seen some universal bases by Delta, HTC and others for about half that price.
Any suggestions on what and where to buy a base for this and other tools. Any quality issues I should worry about with the lower-priced solutions? I need a good solution for my table saw as well. Thanks in advance!

I just cut a piece of 3/4 ply to fit and screw HD wheels under it. That goes for practically everything that's safe enough. A table saw should be solid to the floor. You could lose a thumb goofing around with a sliding saw, even a portable one. IMO
*I made my own bandsaw portable base as well. I glued and screwed two layres of 3/4" plywood and attached universal direction wheels. To use I simply roll to the desired area, wedge the wheels with scrap wood and I am all set. Cost, under $20.00. Very convienent.
*Sometimes movement while using the tool can be a problem when employing casters. My father came up with a neat solution. Put two sizable wheels on either side of the rear of the machine so they just touch the ground. Now make up two long handles about a foot or so longer than the machine is deep. Attach them to pivot bolts directly above the wheels about 8" or so lower than the top of the machine. To use, grab a handle in either hand, they'll swing up and stop on the table. Lift a little further to raise the front of the machine slightly off the floor. Now you can move the machine around like a two wheeled wheelbarrow and when you set it down, it will actually stay there. Hope this is clear, I have no way to add an illustration. It has worked really well for me even on heavy machines.Mike
