My modular home was delivered and set last week. I have a concern about the roof installation. The set-up crew “knocked” holes in the OSB Roof decking to place the chains thru to raise the roof sections. When they closed the roof, the crew placed 30# roofing paper over the holes and shingled over them.
Is this a code violation or just sloppy construction practices? Is this an acceptable practice? Am I being too nit picky?
My preferred solution is to replace the decking over the hinged sections anyway.

how big are the holes?
in old houses with real lumber on the roofs, there were a lot of knot holes in the 1-1 1/2" range, everyone just roofed over them.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
They average ~ 4" x 3"
Thats enough to break an ankle and cause a roofer/homeowner to fall. I'd raise hell.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I'd think that they (the holes) will telegraph thru to the shingles and you will also end up with a funky looking roof in just a few years.
I'm with Sphere. That was pure BS what they did just shingling over it.
At least they could have put some sheet metal or heavy flashing there before shingling.
Were these SIP sections?
No, Standard roof construction
Read a shingle wraper sometime. The standard is to cover any gap between sheathing or knotholes greater than 3/8" with metal. in real life, it grows to 3/4" a lot of the time before getting that treatment, but 3-4" is outrageous!
another problem these guys create is that when they ship with a tarp over the roof tied down with strapping, they have screwed it down and they leave holes in the shingles every place there was a screw, and just walk away from that.
A couple months ago, I fixed a roof with about thirty holes like that. At least three of them were actively pouring water into a three year old house.
