The 100 year old yellow pine on my old Brownstone home finally had to be replaced. Because of the cost of replacing the floor material with yellow pine, my handiman suggested that I put down pressure treated spruce. I had it milled to 1 1/4 x 3 1/2 tongue and groove (like the old material) and was pressure treated. After laying about a 10 x 15 foot section, the joints opened up a 1/16 or more after a few days. The project was stopped, and the rest of the material was unbundled, and stickered in the handimans garage. There is no heat in the garage, but it is currently very mild and dry weather here in Northeastern Colo. My concern is, whether there is time for the material to dry before winter hits, and is my Delhorst meter really adequate to give me correct readings, and what should the moisture content be??? I really want the floor on the porch to lood nice, and want to keep the joints as closed as possible, and am willing to take up the flooring that has been put down. This is my first time at a project such as this and would appreciate any tips on drying and installation.
Thanks, Bruce in Colo.
