I bought a Mini Ligno S from Amazon.com for about $110. It has pins that you push into the material. Some other models don't. I've used it quite a bit already and am very happy to have it.
I have an older model Wagner moisture meter. Its the kind that ( I think ) uses radio frequencies to read the moisture content without putting holes in the wood. Its worked well for me, although I really don't use it all that much. It cost around $200-225.
I think I bought it at Woodcraft.
Delmhorst makes a nice digital meter for about $250. Pin-type.
