I would like to add new crown molding to a kitchen/family room. My problem is that for a portion of the cabinets I only have a 1 1/2 inch clearance and I would like it all to flow together, although it doesn’t have to match. I have done alot of these projects in the past but this one has me stumped. Advise would be welcomed, thank you.

Lori,
There is an 1 5/8" solid crown available here in the northeast. You could rip an 1/8"th off the top if it's really that tight. Or the standard 1 5/8" colonial stop with an 1 1/8" solid cove over it has a nice look. If neither of these are acceptable I'm sure there is a local millwork in your area that could do a custom run for you.

go with a simple cove and be done with it, or spend a load of money retrofitting the uppers to make it work with a larger crown.

Lori,
There are several standard crown, bed and cove moulds that will work within a 1 1/2" space from the plane of your ceiling. Some are:
Crown - 8008
Bed - 8016
Cove - 8024
These are standard wood moulding numbers that your lumber yard should know about. If you could email me a fax number, I'll be glad to pass on the profiles.

Thanks for the advise, I'm going to use the cove molding with a colonial stop and if looks great with the other crown moldings.
